Model regions in Germany
Where is E-Energy at home?
With the aim of making the energy economy more efficient and secure by way of information and communication technology the BMWi already held the E-Energy technology competition in 2007. From this competition six different model projects were declared winners. Together with their respective partners six energy providers are developing an "Internet of Energy" in their regions. Through this production, distribution and consumption of electricity will be intelligently regulated and controlled.
The winners
Owing to its particular innovative and economic-political significance the Federal Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel declared the project to be the national lighthouse project at the IT summit 2008. The six winners of the E-Energy competition are:
MeRegio
Connecting centralised energy producers, multiple distributed energy resources and consumers with the objective of reducing the CO2 emissions in the Minimum Emission Region (MeRegio), of increasing energy efficiency and of developing a corresponding certification.
Project coordinator: EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG
eTelligence
Regional energy marketplace which brings together the producer (primarily highly fluctuating wind power), consumers, energy providers and network operators.
Project coordinator: EWE AG
E-DeMa
Development and demonstration of decentralised networked energy systems to E-Energy marketplace of the future
Project coordinator: RWE Energy AG
