E-Energy – what is it?
E-Energy is a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) gfor more economy, security of supply and environmental compatibility in energy supply.
Model regions
It covers six further projects in which by way of modern information and communication technologies processes related to energy production and energy consumption are optimised. The aim is to promote the expansion of renewable energy sources, to increase energy efficiency and to reduce CO2 emissions. For this purpose EUR 60m have been provided by the BMWi and the BMU, a further EUR 80m has come from the companies involved in order to develop the respective model regions.
E-E-Energy on the Internet
Of course, E-Energy also takes place on the Internet. Here each model region will set up a marketplace for energy. All of those involved – for the first time also decentralised energy producers and consumers – will thus have the possibility of being part of one network and bundling their interests. Advantage: on this market place the supply and demand will be directly controlled.
Consumer participation
In future the consumer will actively participate in this market and use the advantages for itself, e.g. by purchasing its energy at cheaper prices when it is available outside of peak load periods in large quantities. And decentralised energy producers can offer their energy, which originates primarily from renewable sources, individually or collectively on this marketplace.
